I bought a 89 FXR 5 years back and it leaks at the base of the outer primary cover. Weird thing is where it bolts to the inner primary on the bottom, it is not flush like I would think it should be. Being flush I mean the 2 machined surfaces do not match up.
It appears the outer cover almost lines up and there is just enough surface to install the gasket but it does not fit as expected.
It is possible one could install the wrong outer primary cover?
BTW I would think it is after market as it is chrome.
Not sure about the coves but one day I went upto the parts place for my buddy to pickup a primary gasket for his 87 fxrc and there were two there that were really close in matchup.
