Default Bugs

Coming down last night through Sheffield MA and into Canaan CT, along the Housatonic River, there were so many bugs in my headlight it looked like it was snowing! This is what it looked like when I got home:

Absolutely.

I mean, there's bugs every night. But this was unusual. I did see something similar one night earlier this year when riding along the Farmington River. There must be some sort of hatch that happens that sends thousands of these bugs out at once.

That happens a few times a year around here. Before I rode with a windshield, I'd get home and my leather jacket would look like a fur coat. Yechh!

Once me and the old lady went thru the Magee marshes wildlife preserve in Ohio. Same thing but worse. It was like are 2nd or 3rd little road trip and she was pissed. And they laugh at our farings and windsields.

I'm not at all trying to change the subject with this, but thought some of you might be interested in what happens from time to time downumder.

Spring here in Aussie just started on Sept 1st.

The agricultural department here (Department of Primary Industries) has just announced a Locust plague is on the cards as soon as it warms up. The little bastids have laid their eggs in the ground and when it warms up look out!

Hsitorically, Australia has suffered many plagues over a long period of time, all by imported species such as rabbits, mice and locusts for over a hundred years. Here are some links for those interested in such things.

Locusts-- http://www.daff.gov.au/animal-plant-...rrent#risk-map

Mice-- http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...05/2944529.htm

Starfish-- http://australian-animals.net/crown.htm

Camels-- http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/news/2...voc-red-centre

Rabbits-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit-proof_fence

We do cop our share of creature problems....
