I got the clutch figured out on that 1985, I got up the courage to open her up and I found a broken snap ring. I'll grab one from work tomorrow and slap that sucka back together to verify that's all that's wrong with it.
I would appreciate it if you could find the time to swing by and take a look at what we've got. I have a vent hose coming from the bottom of the engine that is supposed to go to the air cleaner but there is no where on the S&S AC to plug that sucker in. Maybe you can help us figure out a few other things while you're here. Like finding a different seat and reattaching the battery to the bike. Mike wants to go with soft bags and give it a Fatboy kinda look, If you can picture that. My # can be found in the PM I sent you, I look forward to hearing from you. THANKS ! ! !
how big of a hurry are you? i just had triple hernia surgery on monday and i'm really hurtin' now. maybe next week i can stop. the bike looks better than the last time i saw it.
rd, take the allens out of the 6 sided trans cover and pop it off. you might have to loosen up the starter too. is one of the allens holding the starter on? i don't remember. there isn't anything behind it that can fall out of the trans. if the clutch fork is broke, that's all that can fall out. i have an extra gasket if you need one. the last time i bought a fork it was about $9 so i bought 2. it's an easy road side fix.
i just went and looked at my bike. starter isn't attached. you have to loosen the clutch cable and remove the allens. that should do it. i got the clutch forks at doc's but appleton had one too. part# 37084-79 release finger.
