1985 FLHTC. I have been having issues with idling I belive I have it worked out. Now I have a poblem with the accelerator, it dose not work. Recently rebuilt. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you, no everything is free, its just when I put her in gear an release she falls flat on her face. Why are you upgrading ?? If you don't mind my asking. Interested? hell yea! I would be happy to take it off your hands. It has become some what of an all consuming quest, I rebuilt it (carb) my self the reason was it just would'nt idol and it would back fire thru the carb. The only thing that I could find wrong was the slow jet was pluged. I had no accelerator prob before but now I do!!! It seems that every time I find a prob an correct it I cause a new one. Thanks again for your input...
did you check the rubber compliance fittings, they are known to go bad and can cause lots of problems.
I have had my 85 FXWG since new, and the motor/carb etc.. are stock original. After having a couple of Ironhorse choppers for the last several years the 111 motor makes the evo seem weak. The kehin butterfly is known to be pretty crappy at best. I have bought an S&S E carb, because the S&S is easy to work with and I like the G's my choppers have. Also got an Andrews EV27 cam, lifters, adjustable pushrods, cam bearing, and gaskets to do it all at once.
old carb is in good shape and has an S&S air cleaner on it. PM me an offer for the whole setup, including intake and compliance fittings.
Also double check the accelerator pump, if it's not properly installed it'll give you those problems. I like the Keihin butterfly ok. Properly jetted and tuned they run just fine on a stock motor IMO...
I had surgery one year and my bike sat for a while. When I went to ride it would idle ,but when you gave it gas would sputter. The little rod that makes the Acc pump squirt had a little corrosion on it. I took it off and cleaned it with 400 sandpaper. Was good to go then. This was on a Screaming Eagle carb. I forget who made it.
