I bought our bikes new. 24 and 23 years ago. I guess I'm not "most people" either.

I bought mine 23 years ago. At this point it will be in my estate. I have always run HD oil in the motor and HD primary fluid. Bel-Ray in the tranny. Now they don't make the P fluid. Their oil just keeps going up in price. I have one change left for the primary. I will use a tranny fluid when I run out. I have been watching these oil threads.

yeah yeay yeah...blah blah blah...I agree, the oil wars go on forever on here! BUT I will say this. used Amsoil last year but this spring when I was ready to change oil,it was going to take 3-4 days to get some shipped to me.And when I'm ready to do something,i wanna do it now,not in a few days, next week or wtfe. So, I bought Mobile1.When I changed out the Amsoil,it was still really clean looking, when I checked the Mobile 1 awhile back,it was really dark,didn;\'t look nearly as clean as the Amsoil did.So......think I'll plan ahead and order up some Amsoil.

There's also the philosophy that dirty oil means the detergents are working and pulling the dirt out of the motor.

You just can't win.

My experience has been the motor oil usually starts to change color around 1500 miles, and is dirty looking at 5k. The trans oil looks the same at 5k, as it did the day I put it in. And the primary is pretty dirty at 5k, mostly clutch dust I'm guessing. It didn't seem to matter who's oil I used.,
