Just send the cylnders out to an engine rebuilder and have him clean them in a heated dip tank. That should remove the finish so that you can paint them with some high heat paint. While it's there you could also have them bored out to .010" oversize (you need to send the pistons too!!). That way you know the clearance is good. You might want to look at Mahle pistons, most of the NASCAR teams use them. They are a quality product.

A friend of mine painted his with HD wrinkle and baked them in the oven. His OL $hit. Cleaned up the edges with a fine file and sandpaper. They look good.
