I purchased my friends 04 FLHT and I just can't get with the silver engine, I have black jugs and heads from my 06 springer 95" build and what I'm wanting to do is use the 06 black heads and jugs for a 95" build and paint the rest of the engine black to match. Im sure I'm not the 1st to try this so what brand/type paint is reccomended for painting the case. Thanks guys. Also for all the 95" gurus, give me the low down on cams, I'm looking @ Andrews TW55, the builder likes TW60. Fully ported heads, 10.5:1, SERT,VH Duals w/Rush 2.5 Thanks again.
Like most of us, I'm sure that you've discovered that 90% of the paint that comes in spray cans
is junk. The product that I've used the past 15 years that really works unbelieveably good and
has very little fade is VHT brand high-temp engine enamel. It is available in a wide variety of
colors including clear and three blacks - gloss, satin, and flat which you would want. It is solvent
resistant, good to 550 degrees and subsequent touch-up matches perfectly. No primer is needed.
You can get it from Jegs, Black flat #870-SP130, ph 800-345-4545 for $8.99 / 11 0z can.
Make sure you prep well. I use brake-clean with a brush followed by soapy water and a rinse.
Good luck.
Thanks Bob, I use the Gloss VHT on our BB Chevy engines, so Brake kleen and a soapy rince it is, so the VHT flat matches best, I'm gladI asked I would have gotten the semigloss.
harley sells black paint for their engines. two different kinds depending on what year the bike/engine is. using it right now to paint my silver 110 heads and jugs black to match my cases. looks pretty good too i might add. here is pn# 98606BF texture black
Thanks I really never gave any thought to HD having paint to match that may make things a bit simpler.
How about some 95" camshaft thoughts, do you guys have any ideas tm55 vs tm60?
