Default Engine Black

Fellow evo-ites. Has anyone used any engine paint to touch up the factory engine black? I know the MoCo sells a touch up bottle, but I was wondering if anyone has used anything other than the factory stuff.

There are other crinkle black options out there (Hycote, VHT) . IMO the most important thing is getting a good etch primer in first otherwise it just flakes off.

Read the directions on the can. VHT recommends pre heating before spraying and "baking" after spraying for best results (i.e. A heat lamp/halogen shop light). The hardest part with a engine still in the bike is retaining the machined fins on the heads/cylinders, and of course masking everything off to prevent unwanted over spray.

If its just touching in chips then I squirt some into the lid and put it on with a detail paint brush. Much les drama than trying to spray it on.

I used a couple coats of 2000+ degree flat black engine paint, then a couple coats of industrial strength gloss black enamel. Has held up well......

For small areas ,I was able to get a near perfect match with Testors model paint, gloss black, flat black,1/2 and 1/2 then added some grit that is used for floor paint. If I didn't tell someone they never would have noticed.

Stupid question and a point.....wouldn't that have to be high heat paint and is anyone familiar with "S100" spray for the engine black? Is it good or not really? Sorry if I got a little off topic. Thanks.

S100 restores the deep black on the factory paint. Works great.
