I have a 98 Lowrider and my carb has started dumping gas out the overflow tube when its running. I have taken the carb off twice, took it apart, checked the float level, did everything my manual says to do, and can't find any thing wrong. Has anybody had this happen and what did you do to fix it. With diesel going up again, I really need my bike.
id ck the float valve needle assmb. theres a rubber seal that goes bad and causes gas to overflow. its that ethonol **** gas that eats away our rubber parts!!
Also check the two "ears" that hold the float on, that the little pin slips in to. Over time, from the vibration, one of them can crack or get wallowed out, causing the float to wobble around while riding. This can cause the overflow your getting. It happened to me.
Mine did it this spring, everything looked good so I cleaned it all and put it back on..still leaked. Took it apart again and looked at the float needle under a strong magnifing glass, it had wear marks in the metal "wings" that act as guides when it goes up and down. Took some croakas cloth and polished them, no more issues. I recomend replacing the thing -(needle)- but I like to tinker and figure things out, my wife says I'm just cheap...LOL
Tank should have a small breather tube leading to the ground. You would be amazed at how many of these get enough debris lodged at the end to stop the flow. Also they are soft and collapse, then you have to replace it.
