Hey guys need some input. I have a 97 Roadking and the last few times I rode it I get this popping sound that comes from the carb area? It happens when I'm in and around 100km-120km. Any speed before 100km or above 120km I never get that pop. It definitely isn't coming from my pipes so I've ruled out running to lean or rich.
Is this EFI or carbed? In general, popping from the carb is a sign of too lean. You could have an intake leak. If carbed, you could have a gunked up main or intermediate jet, depending on what carb you have.
Popping from the exhaust pipes during deceleration can be an exhaust gas leak.
Yes, as topfuel7 says. Carb cleaner works too, and listen for the RPM change, up or down. Spray a little on all the joints between the carb and the head while running.
As for adjusting the carb, I don't know CV carbs, just S&S and Megasquirt EFI. If this is a new problem, I would think that something is wrong and needs fixing, versus just needing to be richened it up and mask the symptoms. Start with a good cleaning (with a soak) and go from there.
I think your float bowl is going empty with sustained rpms. Check float height.
Does the engine run well in town or slower on secondary highways?
Check your plug colour after a normal ride going 60mph for an hour. That might tell you where your fuel/air mixture is!
Hatch.
I'm thinking that since its at higher speeds, your running out of fuel. I'd check the pet-**** screen.. With the ethanol in Georgia, I've had some and heard a couple of buddies have a few problems..
