Fellow Scot, you do not have to pull the primary off to replace that lever. I have replaced dozens of them in about 1 1/2. Do not let anyone tell you that you have too. If you like to pm and I will help you out. Hope this helps, MP

I'm sorry but I must disagree, I'm 90% positive that all gear sets are the same up until the 6 speed gearset started and only the tranny cases differ per model. I know for a fact that unless the gear set is removed the shifter lever will not make it pass the countershaft gears. Been there tried that and didn't work.
Then again the trap door can be removed without pulling the primary inner and outer by locking the tranny gears and loosening the countershaft and mainshaft locknuts and prying the trap door away from tranny exposing the mainshaft and countershaft at which time the counter shaft can be removed allowing remove for the shifter shaft to be removed. There could be a bit of trouble getting at the shifter shaft snap ring.

I am a master watchmaker by trade. Pretty good with fitting things together correctly all-in-all. I even repair other watchmakers watches due to my expertize in certain brands. On my bikes, I do the simple stuff myself such as fluids, exhaust etc ... . Then I pay a professional to do the things I haven't learned how to do correctly or can't do at the level he can do it at. No heat, not the right tools, need to depend on a helper? Let the pro do it and enjoy the ride when you get it back!

Original numbered Omega Coaxial owner here. It's a shame Harleys are not quite a lot smaller! Would make working on them so much easier. Met George Daniels at the TT Races on the Isle of Man some years ago. He is a keen motorcyclist and was there on his Sunbeam S7 shaft-drive twin (he also lives there). I tried to argue that the worm gear rear drive they have leaves a lot to be desired, but soon shut up in such company!

Sometimes it's best to leave the heavy stuff or complicated stuff to the pro's... Heat & power is also a premium in the Garage....I think the cam job i just did is the farthest i have taken it....a little intimidating but satisfying. The tranny would be a part i would take to something.
