Default Best Reference Tool

I just bought a nice '84 FXRT last fall. I'm trying to get used to what all I have and where things are located on the bike. I've only had my other bike for 2 years, but have ridden borrowed for 20 years. I have the 1984 Harley Manual for it, but is there a better manual or guide for what and how to do general maintenance? such as how to check tranny fluid, how to add air to shocks, etc. Thanks!

Personally I like the OEM service manual and the parts manual to go with it because of the exploded views, I found both cheapest on e-bay, but if you're in a hurry Latus Motors seems to have them on sale every now and again... Just a thought

There are actually some good videos on Youtube showing maintenance and rebuild tips.

Service manual is the best tool but also reading through the forum will also help, if you have any questions you just have to ask, there are no dumb questions well within reason.
Google is your friend.

I would like to see a picture of your '84 FXRT. I had an '84 FXRT for about 10 years...best Harley I ever had. I did not like the enclosed chain though....it made for a PITA for tire changing time. I sold it because it was getting more difficult in finding the original parts for it.

I would look for the factory shop manual....keep in mind, much of the bike may have been modified or even upgraded. Therefore, some of the manual may not apply anymore.
