Default Lifter Screen Screw

Doing some PM on my bike, and I cannot get the screw (bolt, D2mN3d fastener) out. I tried using a drag link, but it is slipping off of the slot. Any suggestions?

Use a hammer driven impact driver. Northern tool, etc have them for about $20.00. Then when you get it out you can get allen replacements or put a new stock one in if it is "boogered" up, as it will be worse next time.

Thanks for the tip. That's what I was thinking to do, but didn't want to go bashing around there if it wasn't safe.

Get the right tool to take the screw out. If you don't get the right tool, you will bugger up the head. I'm sure JP or any of the other aftermarket vendors carry the tool. I have two. One in my "special tools" drawer, and one somewhere in my shop, hiding where the fairies put it.

Oh, and once you get it off, I BET YOU the screen is clean. I drink Becks.

I think this is a similar tool at Jireh from the description, but there's no pic:

Also a lot cheaper. They have a Jim's tool for $22 that would be the same,

Check it if it makes you feel good. I've put ~80K miles on my bike. I used to check it regularly back when I got it, because my shovelhead POS would have bits of clutch plate in there all the time, which is why the MoCo put the screen there in the first place. After a while, I stopped checking it on my Evo because it was always clean. I did some work when I put the cam in and checked it then (losing the tool I'd been carrying around for 20 years when the fairies hid it and having to buy another to get the plug off), and guess what, after ~50K miles of never checking that screen, it was... clean.

I bought the tool and then thinking the fairies would steal it replaced the plug with a hex headed Custom Chrome part. I check the screen at every oil change and never find anything either...

This might not be the exact link but gives you the general Idea, go to sears and just buy one of the right size, generally under 10 bucks..
