missfires under elc.load
Hello everone today day I am thinking of running a hot wire to the poss side of my coil ( just for testing) thinking this would bypass the ign switch and any other wiring
(Dr think this would be ok to do dont want screw up anything ?) and run the bike to see if I have a voltage drop at the coil Thanks for all the help

Remember to check all connections, especially the grounds. Look for corrosion and ensure all connections are tight and clean, a star washer ensures a better connection. Don't forget to also check where the wire goes into the metal connectors for corrosion and to ensure they are snug also.
A hot wire to the coil and a ride will tell you if your ignition circuit is to blame, but will not rule out any of the components that you haven't replaced. Of course this advice is assuming you have checked out everything else. Hope this helps

Could also be the kill switch.
Running a hot wire should tell you if there's a problem feeding that coil/ignition. Just be sure you have some way to pull it off if you have to.
Finding problems under load is tough. Could also be a carburetor issue. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish the two. You can also get a little pen device that will flash when you hold it next to a firing spark plug wire. It gets a bit tricky on a bike, but I've done it: go down the road, make it misfire, hold gizmo next to the spark plug wire, check to see if it's flashing. If it is, your spark plug is firing and the problem is probably fuel.
Another thing to check would be to run a wire from the coil + up to the tank or handlebar, put a volt meter on it, tape it all up and go for a ride. If the coil + drops at your misfire, you'll know where to look. If the voltage stays stable while it's misfiring, start looking elsewhere.

Hello everone Hope someone can help me out I have a 1990 flhs about two weekago when I turn on the head lamp or driveing lamps she will start breaking up and missfire real bad at about 1800 rpm check the charging sys hold 14 volts replace coil ,plug wires , plugs and pickup plate still run bad turn off the light at the ign switch ( 4 pole switch ) run fine unhook the headlamp at cont. and she run fine Its like when it under a elc load it breakes up Thanks For any Help Fburfitt
Well today I pull the cluster and clean all the grounds and cont. at the cir breakes
here a little more back ground on my babby proplem This all started when the Battery
Shorted out in side rode it about 2 miles no proplem Stop and had a drink with a friend Got back on and it would not start So I gota volt meter and ck. the battery only had 6 volts jump started the bike it would idle but die when giving it the gas
SO got her home went and got a new battery ( harley 330 cold cranking amps )
Install it check the charging sys was getting 16 volts at the battery so I got a new reg. and install it retest 14.2 at 2000 rpm good to go jump on the bike took off
started home about dark so hit the head lamps started real missing and backfireing
so I tune it up still no help Than I install a pickup plate . so today I clean everthing
So after the yard work in the morning I gong to hot wire it and see what happens from there Agian Thanks For all the Help Well let Everone know where it gose from
It dose act up sitting still or rideing. O to day I did move the power feed tothe driving light to different ciritbreak that was feed power in the run only feed still no help so that would be a different poll from the ign switch ( dose any out there have a wire diagram I have a ser man. but the old eyes can not see them to well ) agian THANKS
