Swensos, I ran the EVL5005 a few years ago and a stump puller at 45-55 mph rollon throttle and down lower, seemed to fade out early in the upper rpms. I wouldn't want to go above 9.5-1, you might squeek out 9.8-1 with proper afr's
I had it in a 10.2-1 engine and was a ping monster in heat but the speedometer would move fast in the lower rpms, a lesson was learned about setting up an engine for the long haul. The 5005 was easy on lifters and quiet as the stock engine but feel it is a bagger only cam.
SE Heads.. w/ .3 gasket we'll be at 9.5-1.. was looking at the (EVL3020, ev27 w6..) I'm looking for light to light power.. only do one longer bike trip a year..
That is a perfect cam for the SE's, it will stay within the .575 lift specs and use the bigger valves over the bolt in cams, I had SE's with the 5005.
I know for a fact that a DM581 @ 580 lift will work with those heads also, the DM is a good cam and is in between the Vthunder and Woods on aggressive lobes, I currently run a Woods with ported stock heads and not much difference between the Woods and Dave Mackie in the real world but that EVL5005 is a fail safe cam for valve train stress, possible lifter noise, clearance issues with the .575 lift SE's
5005 is going in.. I'll let you know how ir turns out...
...you just might have yourself a winner there.
Please do let us know how it turns out. I, for one, am interested anyway.
(and who knows, if this set up doesn't work for you, Chad may have a set of 12:1 slugs and a W6 you could use, although the 6 cam will need a little cleaning, I'm sure........)
