Default Just got a tick

Well, the old 89 evo just started a damn tick tick tick after she is good and warmed up. I figure it's time to take out the old lifters and drop in a set of adjustables. Does anyone know if there is a special tool to get in and take the bolt off the back rocker cover. The distance between the cover and the fram is tight. I know I can put the adjustables in without taking the cover off, but it has a little leak so I thought I my as well

Thanks
Jack

The first think I'd do is clean the lifter screen...

Those older Evos had the lifters with the small-axle rollers and were notorious for coming apart. I would replace them with some mid-late '90's lifters, which are way more durable. I would also get adjustable pushrods to make life a lot easier. Just take tin snips and cut the stock pushrods out and you'll find the adjustables go right in without tearing the rocker boxes apart. Just my $.02.

Bolt cutters to the old pushrods, EZ install new ones and you don't have to pull the rocker boxes off. That's the best way if you don't have a rocker box leak to fix while you're doing it all. Otherwise, if you need to take the rear rocker box off, you can cut down an allen wrench to where it will go in under the frame, or you can loosen the front motor mount and drop the motor down to get clearance.

+1, it can get gunked up. Notorious after winter.

See the picture here and get a drag link adapter from the tool shop.

Now there is the idea, cut down the allen wrench.

Thanks!
