Has anyone installed the LED headlights by Harley on their cycle?
Specifically, I am looking for someone that has installed one on a Wide Glide from '91 - '05, as those years are listed as an exception on the Harley site.
I lept in with both feet when Harley introduced their HID headlight. It came with wiring and connectors to match later bikes but it was straight-forward to wire it in on my 1990 Evo. Performance does not, however, match its cost. There are far cheaper HID kits available now and may there be much cheaper LED lights before long.
Looks like the other option is Sylvania Silverstar H4st (xenon) sold in pairs for about 20 bucks. You essentially get a free bulb over the Harley deal.
I bought the LED speaker 7" headlight (projector) and was so impressed by the results, I bought the LED Spotlights. AT first I was skeptical that the passing lights may not be worth the additional cost when looking at the bezels. I can't believe the difference the LED passing lights made when o with the LED headlight. I didn't think it would be that noticeable, but everything got significantly whiter and more coverage.
I 've blacked out my 09 FLHX and added 103" cams etc., but if I had of known what a dramatic difference this lighting made, I would have done it first. The only bad thing is my Fatboy Lo has regular headlights and passing lights. I hate it.
I used the silver star ultra prior to these, and although ther was improvement, it was a bigger voltage draw, and I burned one out in only 3 months as they don't last long. With LED, I should never have to change the headlight or passing light again. If you get the chance, ride with someone who has both APS LED headlamp and APS spots. It really is close to daylight.
The new issue of HOG magazine has an article about the MOCO's LED headlamps. The photos look impressive. I bet the H-D Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories price is "impressive" also.
It says, "Their plug and play design means installation is quick and simple into the stock housing and wiring connections."
I think I will pay to play.
Just want to mention, referring to OWOF's post, that the Silverstar Ultras are halogen bulbs, basically the same as the stock bulbs that came with most if not all Evo bikes. There's no question that LED is superior to halogen and even xenon gas bulbs, but the xenon bulbs are an improvement over halogen, draw less voltage and last much longer than halogen, plus they don't bang your wallet for 3 or 4 hundred bucks.
I know this post was about LED, and I'm sorry for the thread drift, but I just thought I'd mention a less expensive alternative to LED that's an improvement over halogen bulbs or Silverstar Ultra halogens.
