My '88 FLSTC I used to have would do it every spring.
It was usually accompanied by a gurgling sound while it puked up to half a quart in the old lady's cake pan.

Almost sounded like a porno.

Mine always did it first crank up in the spring after winter storage...last year I solved the problem...I drained the oil out before storage and refilled before first crank....problem solved.

Nutter, the method you used is the way we did it for years. Nowadays we use a piece of pushrod that we cut out of an engine(the ball is the same size). We square off the end we cut with the lathe (a hacksaw would do the job too). Then we leave the pump on the engine, clean out the passage after we crimp the line off. Take a Q-tip and force some grease into the passage in the bottom. Then put some medium valve compound on the ball and turn it back and forth by hand, checking to see if we have a seat all yhe way around. Then its fine compound followed by a good cleaning with Q-Tips. Open the crimp up and oil should flow out, if not apply a LITTLE air pressure to the tank anf the grease plug will come out removing any foreign particles left with it. If the seat is really bad a drill on the pushrod with the medium compound will speed things up. Hope this helps!!!
