Default EV27 ignition timing

I am the original owner of my 1985 FXWG.
The motor was ALL stock original until just a couple of weeks ago.
I installed:
EV27 cam
Harley B lifters
screamin eagle adjustable pushrods
KB 9.5 pistons/rings
had cylinders honed at Zippers
had valve seats recut by a buddy
replaced valves, springs, collars & keepers
S&S super E carb.

It runs great and I had zero problems with the install.
The only issue is that the bike seems to have more vibration then it should. The vibration seems to be from the motor and not from the chassis. I can pull the clutch in and coast at speed without the vibration. I'm wondering about ignition timing. It has a screamin eagle module (non-adjustable). should I use the stock ignition timing settings, or do I need to advance/retard it any?

all the motor mounts are tight.
I will recheck the primary chain tension.

It has a slight leak, I think from the trans main seal. I'll pull the primary and fix that. I've heard that the mainshaft nut can work loose. can that cause vibration?

A built Harley motor with more than stock horsepower will usually have more vibration than before. If your compensator nut is working loose, this will cause vibration. Since you gotta pull your primary anyways, that will fix this. Same with the trans mainshaft (clutch) nut.

Did you weigh the pistons before you installed them? If the weights are different, this will cause more vibration also. (Part of balancing and blueprinting a motor.) Also, heavier pistons will move the vibration to a different position in the RPM range which might be what you're noticing.

Had my 1990 FLHS from new. When I fitted an EV27 and did minor other mods I used stock timing with a Crane ignition module. It won't harm adjusting a little around that to see if the motor improves. Later I had my motor stroked by a tuner and that was the sweetest running Harley I have ever ridden and was remarkably smooth. I wish the S&S 107 I currently have was a nice! I had new rubber mounts fitted with both of those mods and I would suggest you do the same, unless they are fairly new.

rubber mounts????
don't have rubber mounts, but thanks for the timing info.
since there is no mention of timing settings from Andrews, I assummed it was meant to be set at stock settings, but it doesn't seem to ever get mentioned.

Timing is on you. my evo {stock 80in } with ev27 / s&s e shorty with thunderjet I did the timing with cold & hot starts and takeing it down the road. Having the tools I needed with me. I did find out if it runs rich it will run hot. The ev27 is known as a eazy start cam, and its that way with my bike. The dyna signle fire works real well with the ev27, have it on mine. The best touch to my bike was the 2 into 1 thunder header, flat lined the air fuel mix with them. As far as the vibes, got ta love it unless some thing is coming apart.

I had my s&s carb set up at Thunderjet, with thunderjet , jetting will be differant then stock s&s carb. cam/ air intake and exhaust will determine jet size. S&S techs are cool people and will tell you whats the best jeting for your set up. When I set my bike up I wanted the best preformance and longevity. I dont much care for the look of 2 into 1, but it gave me the best preformance. {67hp-76tq } and as far as longevity, I figure 150,000 or beter with good service and not beating the hell out of it
As far as my jet size, got to find the paper work, right now its packed away, getting ready to move, guess I can call thunder jet and let Ya know
evo80" / S&S E shorty with thunderjet/ ev27 cam / v-thunder ez-install pushrods / stock lifters / dyna signle fire / Python thunder header

if you are vibrating more under acceleration and not when coasting, you can play with the motor mounts. Hiem joints on the top right? Try shortening the top by a half turn...bet that changes your vibration. Maybe for the better, maybe worse, but you might be able to find a sweet spot
