Jim, Thanks for that info. I have my bike bookmarked now. Plus, they are in my State so I will need to stop by when I can.

Mountainkowboy, Good luck with the new-to-you bike. I hope this is a harbinger of good luck coming your way after the hard times. Ride safe.

I slipped an 09 FLHTC seat in place and it will fit with a few mods to the exsisting seat tang on the front. The rack is in the way for it to sit dowm properly and I would have to add the rear seat bolt to the fender.
I have a 90 FLHTCU and love it as well - you will probably never switch back since it sounds like fabricating is part of the fun of things for you. As to cutting off that rack mount, you might consider selling it on eBay or something. I got rid of lots of stuff on mine that I didn't like too, but people will pay for original pieces like that, so I would caution you against just throwing it away. I got $150 for my radio and speakers (I hate radios on bikes) and have sold a couple other odds and ends that I didn't want. Just a thought.... might help fund some other project.

Well I'm at a stand-still till I get the service manual. I can work at taking the rear rack off, but thats about it. What the hell was Harley thinkin making all the wire connectors the same in the dash??? I started taking do nothing wires out last night and found alot fo crappy splices into the factory harness and ended up pretty much unplugging everything. Was gunnna start putting it back together, but none of the plugs are marked and I dont have the wire diagram yet, had to order it. So I'm kinda dead in the water.

WOW!!! What a PITA it was to get the tourpack rack off. Had to completely remove the saddlebag brackets with the mounts that go to the fender, cause there welded to the underrunners for the bags (have to fix that), take the top shock mounts apart too. Then grind the rivets off top and bottom, do alittle drilling, finally got it to come off. Got to go the HD to get some chrome spacers to take the place of the front mounts for the rack.

Sold the XR today, so i have a little $$ for some repairs too.
