I bought a 97 heritage while home on leave. Its my first harley and I love it. Ive done a lot of reading on this forum before I bought the bike, which is why I went with what I did. I love the simplicty of the EVO. Is there anything that I need to keep an eye on as far as issues that will pop up. What I can do to prevent them. Shes got about 26K on her. Any advice is welcome, I want this bike to last me.

Hi from the UK and welcome to Evo ownership. Your bike looks to be very close in colour to my 1990 FLHS, in candy hi fi blue. Your bike is a late Evo and frankly you should ride and enjoy it. If you don't have them get yourself the factory service manual and parts book. You can read them when you have those sleepless nights, waiting for the day you have to use them! Except for routine servicing, that may be some time yet.....

Welcome aboard, enjoy your new bike and don't be afraid to ask questions. I spent a lot of cold nights and days at Ft. Drum, ended up with quite a few "40 Below" certificates" LOL

At 26k it will be a while before you need to fix anything major but if you are like every other bike owner I know there will be a lot of things you change because you want to. That said get a manual and parts catalog for your bike and don't be afraid to ask questions about what to do or how to fix something. There are a lot of smart people here who can help a lot.

Welcome to the wonderful world of EVOs.
If you get lost in the "showdown" forum,we could send out a search party.....though you may not want one.

Newbie also, I bought a 96 Heritage in August after a 40 year break from bikes. Watching the forum for tips and tricks also.

make sure you let your bike warm up real good before you take off. Otherwise the cylinder base gaskets will eventually leak.

Welcome!!! I've been on the site for about a year and can't say enough good things about the guys on here and how helpful they are. Several people have already said it, but go buy the service manual, it's worth it's weight in gold. I tore down my primary and transmission with the service manual and some help from people on here, plus a few cases of beer and good friends.

My bike has 40k and the only issue was the clutch, leaking tranny seal and leaky lower cylinder gaskets. Enjoy riding, my friends who have spent three times the money on their new bikes get frustrated as hell when my bike keeps up with them without any issues.
