Hows it going Harley Davidson Fam! Names Daniel, I am new to the Harley world or two wheel life as a matter of fact. I just Bought myself a 1996 Electra glide Classic. My pride n Joy. It had 40k miles on it, and in just six months of owning it immediately after riders school, I have been only riding putting on just under 5k miles. That being said, I've been on it just long enough to realize that these stock bars aren't for me, and I have had the hardest time finding the dimensions for what is required to fit in the neck area. sorry I'm still new I don't know all the terms for the parts yet. got another few days before my Clymer bible comes in
Any Help is greatly appreciated and excited to get to know the work of bikes I fell in love with.
Hi Daniel and welcome to HDF from the UK! As a fellow Evo owner I suggest you look up the dedicated Evo section, where you will find fellow owners of these older bikes. As hattitude suggests, the genuine factory service manual is the bees knees, as it deals specifically with your model and doesn't try to cover a great many bikes in one book. You'll soon find that your bike provides you with plenty of opportunities to spend your money and we'll happily help you along!
Interesting name...as far as the bars go, there is no formula, and no effective advice anybody can give you regarding what bars will be correct for you. Handlebar fitment is the most subjective of issues, and what feels good to me won't necessarily feel good to you. Most frequently, you will not find the best fit for you immediately, and you may spend a lot of money trying different ones. Over eleven Harleys, I have probably bought, installed, and removed dozens of handlebars.
One tidbit of advice I CAN give you is to not fall into the trap of choosing handlebars according to whether you can avoid installing longer cables, hoses, and/or wiring extensions. First choose the bar...THEN decide on the cables, etc.
You're gonna get a lot of different advice on this. You're gonna find people agreeing with each other, others will poo poo advice that others give, and the bottom line will be that you'll be more confused than ever.
