I had a loose nut on one of y wires under my gauge cluster. Took me a year of dealing with your problem, but as soon as I tightened that nut down, the bike starts great.

That will solve any problem but a dead battery or, as I found out last year, burned out contacts in the solenoid. I decided that the starter owed me nothing after 17 years and 160,000 miles, so rather than rebuild the solenoid and have something else go in two months, I put in a new starter. I haven't had a problem since.

Check your connections at the ignition. Every thing you've said is connected to the same power source off the ignition.

Coincidentally, I removed that switch, the local indie guy told me this wasnt helping problem. I don't know if I want to put it back though. He said something about using one or the other, not both, and might be getting gummed up (seemed gummed up when I took it apart).
