Default ring end gap.

i m workin on a 94 evo. 80ci.had the pistons and cylinders checked and cleaned up,bores just needed a hone so still at stock size.question is whats a good end gap,harley manual and hastings specs are way different.

Go with the Hasting reccomendations and try to get them as tight as the instructions say, that way you will have less blow-by.Make sure that rou file the rings parralel and be sure to de-burr the ends that you filed. You will have to break the engine in a little easier until the rings seat and the gap opens up slightly. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply.thats exactly what i was thinkin.harley calls for over twice the end gap than hastings does.talk about positive crankcase ventilation!thank god for the Airborne and the Marines,my father is an 86 year old Iwo Jima veteran.

great advice, rule of thumb is .004 per inch of bore, chad.

Hastings Rings come with instructions on where to postion each ring gap in the piston groove...

Hastings is the only way to go for piston rings...I phoned the Plant in MI and got a set of obsolete rings made and delivered within 3-days!!!! Lifetime Customer here!!!
