Im lookin for an upgrade too. I was thinking of checking out a boat shop for prices. Their speakers might be water proof.
I'll let ya know if I find anything.

The OEM speakers aren't exactly waterproof anyway. Just get a good quality automotive speaker that fits. I put JBL speakers in my fairing to replace the OEM ones and the sound did improve. I think they were model GTO427 or something like that. My bike (maybe your's too) uses smaller speakers than the later ones, which can use the 5". I think mine are 4".

I get all the music I need from my motor.....

A GTO with a 427 sounds fun!

Default Radio/Speakers

I'm doing the same thing now to my 95 Ultra...highly recommend Biketronics. They have the harness to make a quick connection from a new Sony CD player to existing OEM plugs and wiring. I bought only the wiring kit from them. I bought the radio at Best Buy a lot cheaper, the inner fairing antenna cheaper on Ebay as well as new 4" 4ohm Biketonics fairing speakers for cheaper on Ebay. I was told the factory 4" speakers are 2ohm and you need 4" speakers that are 4ohm for the new Sony radio. The Biketronics wiring allows hand controls to remain in use. It doesn't work with the CB so that becomes obsolete. I ripped the tour pack off and all the CB components off and now have tunes coming from the front fairing. Should be plenty of power to give plenty of sound. Waiting on two parts and should be installing everything over the weekend. Good luck!!
