Default speaker upgrade

I'm installing the boom audio replacements speakers but I can't seem to get the black plugs off of the oem speakers. Any trick to this?

They can be tight. I've gently pulled on them with a needlenose plier to get them off. I always hold on to the back of the connection so as to not rip it right off.
