Default Poor sound

2011 Ultra Limited, 37K
OEM sound system
Sound had been "ok" (not great, but hey, it's a bike). Recently noticed substantially diminished volume. Before four or five bars put out enough sound to be heard around town. Now I have to crank it almost all the way up to get the same volume.

Did I blow my speakers or the OEM amp? Any ideas?

Was about to buy new speakers online but thought I'd ask you guys.

Also, are the front and rear speakers different sizes?

Thanks everyone,

do you have an intercom? did you use it lately? did you turn it off? On mine, when the intercome is on, and the speakers are on, there is a diminished volume. turn off the intercom and the speakers return to their normal levels......least for me it did. hope it helps....drove me completely bat $hit till i found the problem.

You're right... it does do that. Haven't check that yet - will check it before I buy new speakers.

Well, maybe I "need" new speakers anyway

Had been trying to save up for the 255 cams ($1500 installed) don't know if that'll happen.

Thanks for the heads up.

Check out the audio section. If ya plan on keeping the HK head unit without an amp ya need to get 2ohm speakers. Infinity and JBL (Harmon Kardon companies) make some good 6.5" 2ohm coax speakers. Polk MM651 are 3ohm but work well and very popular. 6.5" speakers will need adapters (Arc/Dragonfly/Throttle-up) for the fairing but fit the rear pods (drill new screw holes). Biketronics also offers good speaker packages. Good luck!

you might check your auto volume control settings if you haven't already.

Thanks everyone,

Your bike dont have the amp man, its just 80 watts from the HK head unit,CVO's come with the amp. Make sure the speaker switch is in the speaker ONLY position, (one position is speakers, next position is speakers AND headset, last position is ONLY headset. Owners manual breaks it down) avc turned all the way up. If you turn it down, you will have to increase the volume more when you are listening to it. If you turn up the avc, volume at 1/2 the bars is cranking, did all that make sense? You shouldnt of blown your speakers but then again they are OEM junk. I added hogtunesall around with a tweeterpod, under 300 for all of it, cheaper if you do it seperateand it wakes the HK up! All 4 of your speakers are 5 1/4 and easy as pie to change. Adding the tweeterpod is easy to, there is a template that comes withit, place it on the fairing and drill 2 small holes, zip zip, run the wires thru the holes, screw in done, that quick and just wire it in with your front speakers (the adapter connector is included) It took me all of 30 minutes taking my time to add all 4 speakers and the pod. Hope this helps you out. Staysafe.
