you may have to consider the buyers perspective too. i buy alot of things on craigslist, and sell too. but i wont buy anything that i dont meet the seller in person, and hand them cash( or them me). theres NO WAY in hell id buy a bike from someone stationed in the middle-east, and have someone else there with the title and such. i want to see the person named on the title, check an ID, and shake hands when the deal is done.
I won't even look at ad's without phone #. I have bought and sold several bikes, cars, trucks, and quads from CL. more times than not, No # = No sale.
I agree completely. A sale or purchase from another individual is, and should be personal. I want to talk to the owner to learn a little more about the item being purchased.

I always like the ones that start out how they will pay you more than what you are asking for... but mail it first and when they get the item they will pay you.... sad thing is there are people out there that dumb... cant fix stupid...
This is a bad time of year for bike sales anyway. But if you won't be back for a while, you won't have to deal with the crap.Like was mentioned if your going the CL route, post some glamour shots of the bike. That usually gets the interest of a serious buyer. Be ready to haggle price, everyone wants your bike, but they want it for free.Price it realisticly, and it will sell. Hit the delete button to clear the scammers. Except for the Nigerian prince that want to give you half his kingdom for it.,,,
This reminds me of when I was looking for my bike on kijiji.ca. I had e-mailed one ad about the bike for sale after several e-mails back and forth ( something seemed out of sorts ). I found out that the woman that was selling the bike moved to Canada to escape her Ex., the title wasn't in her name ( appearantly she got the bike in a divorce?! ) the bike was located in the US ( still with her Ex.? ) and the pictures didn't match the description...My last reply was about not legally being able to sell a bike that didn't belong to her.
Damn that crazy stuff yea I was just testing the water I can talk to people thorugh email but all I was getting was some scam crap through paypal I know a scam from one that not and I prefer to talk to some one face to face when I get back from my deployment
same thing happens to me when ever i post a bike, or truck, on craigslist, first its = is this still for sale, then its the old = im going to buy it and send you extra money for shipping, scam.
take care when posting with CL
never leave your number or real email address
make them email you a phone number and call them back
only way to avoid spam and other issues
even disguising your number 7one4 sevenone17 is no guarantee against it but it does cut down on the bot spam.
I have bought and sold so many items on CL I cannot keep track.
I haven't had any phishing or spam in quite some time since I adopted this format.
