Also, check the two "ears" that hold your float in place. My carb was leaking through the overflow and one of the ears was cracked where the float pin slides in, allowing the float to wobble around.
to resurrect an old thread for the purpose of problem solving....
i had a few issues with mine.... the hi-flow brass elbow combined with a pingel petcock dumped more fuel at a quicker rate, so float needed to be adjusted outside of what manual specifies
plus, the float valve was sticking in the bore because the plunger had worn a hole on the float 'tongue' that it sat on, thus causing the valve not to properly move in the bore...this caused some scoring on the 4 fingers of the valve and in the bore
hit them with some 1000 emery and and polishing cloth, and it's all set
i still shut the petcock off after running her for a while because it's a '91 and doesn't work on vacuum, but gravity ....fuel can easily get past that float valve if it sits too long
Thanks Guys, Going to replace the float, and do a carb rebuild at the same time.
It probably does not need the full works, but i have a rebuild kit, so why not.
Writing to HD to get my certificate for removing/replacing a carb.
Thanks again.
Dee.
Before you tear into the carb., check the gas cap / tank vent as advised.
You stated it leaks only when hot , this sounds like the tank is pressurizing
and fuel is being forced out .
Have you noticed a whoosh of trapped air when you open the gas cap to refuel lately .?
