Default Can Spokes be saved?

Looks like someone put the wrong chemical on my friends spokes and took off the shine. They even look rusted at the wheel.

Are they history, or can they be re-shined?

If they are rusted that means the chrome is gone. In other words they are history.

That's what I was thinking too. I guess some are "anodized" and some are actually chromed.

Chrome cleaner is a no-no on anodized.......

Spokes themselves are fairly cheap. At least they were the last time I bought some, uh... 26 years ago. (THANK GOD FOR MAG WHEELS.) Lacing them up is somewhat of an art form, but "they say" if you follow the HD shop manual, you'll do fine.

Chrome can rust. Actually, I think the underlying steel rusts, but either way, you can do a lot of repair with Mother's Chrome Polish.

Used to be the spokes were cad plated ( so said my local hd dealer ), if thats boogered up, no hope for that. Get stainless if he can afford it. My Indian has stainless spokes that were beaded, so they look like they are cad plated but without maintenance issues.

Stock spokes are cad plated, like bolts...and look like crap in short order. Having the wheel re-laced with stainless spokes and nipples will make it look killer, and is not that expensive.

Nope, it's my friend's bike. My son and I are detailing it for him.

The one on the right.
