Default Quad Seal???

Tranny (84 5 speed) was leaking out of the lower chain opening, so I ordered a seal set. Pulled the sprocket and outer and inner main shaft seals. Next I pulled the snap ring and spacer and there was no quad seal between the spacer and bearing. My manual only shows a belt drive diagram (pulley instead of sprocket). Did HD make a 5 speed without a quad seal? I don't know why this would be left out.

Can't see why it shouldn't have been in there in the first place... I thought that they all had quad seals, belt or chain.

Be sure to clean the spacer thourghly and put a little grease/oil on all the friction areas of all the seals.

Replace the spacer.

Also you might consider upgrading to the `94 and later pulley/lock configuration while you have it apart, if it has not already been done.

I cleaned everything and oiled it. I haven't ever seen a seal-less tranny but you never know. This probably explains the leak. Thanks.
