Default 1998 Softtail Shocks

A friend of mine picked up a 1998 Softtail and is really excited. He was complaining about the bumps being a little rough and it seems to be riding a little low in the rear. Are the shocks adjustable at all?

The preload is adjustable on stock ones. However his bike may be lowered and if that is the case he most likely can adjust the height. Just check under the bike to see what they look like. If they are height adjustable you will see an adjuster on the shocks back toward the swingarm.

Also if he needs shocks I have the stockers off my 97 with about 20K on them!

Yep, pre-load is adjustable: you need the wrench (called a shock "spanner"). However, if they are the originals, like mine were, just replace them. Raised my bike level and drastically improved the ride.
