ignition ?
Stock ignition modules can give you an intermittant spark for a stall and then fire right back up. It wasn't until I put in a good used loner and didn't have the dieing issue that I figured it out.
I had redone each piece of the ignitio, peice by piece starting with the breaker, then the pick up in the nosecone, and the coil. The new version of the pickup is a modern update that's a better design. I upgraded the ignition module to a controllable after market that dramatically improved performance.

hi guys i need some help.
I dont get a spark at all on my xl883 1986
a couple of days it popped a few times and afeter that nothing but wet sparkplugs
checked wiring and replaced the coil.
Measured it and it was the same as the old.
I also measured the ignition module and got 4-9 ohms while it should be no more than 1 ohm.
Is this really broken?
greets from Holland. And yes i am new here

You should make a new thread with your problem instead of bringing up a 6 year old one.
Check for spark. Put a phillips head screwdriver in the end of the spark plug boot, hold it close to the motor. You hold the plastic handle. Crank the motor. Does a spark jump to the motor?
After that, it sounds like you are going through the diagnostics in the manual. What are you getting 4 ohms where it should be 1 at?
Likely causes of no spark are the ignition module and the pickup in the cone.

If that's the test where you read the wire going to the module, yes, the book says OK is 0-1 Ohm and > 1 Ohm is "Replace." Are you sure it is 4 Ohms? Reading low resistance with a cheap ("goed koop") meter is questionable. When you short the test leads, do you get 0? then check the black wire and the ground and make sure the connection with the test leads is very solid. If you get 4, the books says replace. Can you find a take off (used part) from someone that upgraded their ignition? You can also use one from a big twin of the same era. The curve will be a little different (less aggressive), but it will work. That is, if the plugs fit, it will work.
