Have a rattle that has been driving me nuts for year. Chrome decorative cover on starter.... The bracket holding the cover to the starter Lost both of the nuts! Aarrgh!
I've got a front end rattle that I think is the "Road King" emblem rattling against the side of the fender. One of these days I might have to try and fix it.
I had this happen to me on a trip and it was insanely loud. My short term solution was to wedge a peice of plastic between the chrome cover and the cover for the crank case oil dipstick. I think it was the plastic applicator top from a tube of RTV i had with me. It quieted it down and lived there all summer.
Then i removed it altogether. But it is a pain to remove because you have to take the crank case oil cover off.
to me, that little POS of chrome is not worth the shine so bye bye.
I since put a new starter on and never considered putting the chrome on.
And by the way, mine is also a 98 road king - same color scheme as yours even, except black bags on mine.

I've taken the chrome starter cover off my 98 RKC classic several times and don't have to remove the crank case oil cover. Not too easy, just fumbly and annoying.
