Default Need some help

Here's the problem.

Let it warm up for a good 4-5 minutes. Usually the time it takes me to smoke a cigarette. Get on the bike, ride down a few streets, sit at a light, turn left and get up on the highway. About halfway up the on ramp it starts missing and backfiring, and shooting flames out the exhaust. Hammer the throttle to WOT for a mile and it clears up and runs perfect. Same thing happens on the way home from work at about the same distance.

I've replaced the plugs, wires, and coil. I've tried a good used good module and it still doing the same thing.

I have a 94 softail with a S&S super E, drag pipes with thumb screw mod, screaming eagle module, dynatek dual fire coil, 12mm plug wires and HD plugs.

Any advice on where to go from here is greatly appreciated.

I have one more thing to try in the morning and that is to turn the enricher off way earlier. I just thought about fouled plugs but it's odd that it does it only after a few miles and clears up when I go WOT for a mile or two.

How old is your S&S E? My sporty did the same thing years back with an S&S G and the butterfly rod was drawing air through the side. Grab both sides of the rod and try to wiggle it. It could also be drawing air at the intake. And when it heats up it seals off somewhat. Check your VOES (if it has one) cap or tube for cracks. I bought a new intake for my 80 Sporty and it had the vacuum port for my Hypercharcher and the cap that was on it had cracks. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I replaced the intake manifold seals last weekend.

Not sure how old the S&S is, but I think I would see the problem more often if the shaft seals were bad.

I checked the voes and it reads correct and the vacuum hose is good.

Maybe hammering her a lil long with the enricher? I pull mine just to fire it up, then warm it up with throttle only. I was told enricher isnt a choke and isnt meant to be left on like 1. Floods the cylinders and fouls the plugs. Try warming it up throttle only and maybe clean or change the plugs if nec, may stop trouble.

So you have the enricher set for the entire 5 minutes? Probably loading up.

Sounds like it's fouling out. I use the enrichner full out
Like five sec. Then half out 20 sec. Then push it in slowly
While keeping the rpm up and locked either throttle screw.

This bike seemed cold blooded. Been running fine up until a few weeks ago. I am thinking now that it's warm, it may not need any more choke than a second or two.

Anyone know a cross reference number for plugs at oreiley's? My local HD parts counter is closed right not.

Champion RN12YC

As others have said, you only need the enricher full on for start-up.

Thanks, found a cross reference sheet online and went and picked up a set. This is my first Harley, been riding Yamaha's forever. Everywhere I read said to let it warm up for a good while. I'll try it tomorrow morning with just a second of enricher.

Correct, just not with the enrichener on. The thumbscrew holding the idle up is all you need. Start it with the choke on, then shut it off after a few seconds.
