sounds like it wouldnt hurt to ground the motor to the frame if your are on soft mounts with battery grounded to starter and components grounded to frame? at least eliminate that as a source of the problem
A couple of comments: A battery tender is not necessarily a battery charger. Some will charge a battery, some will no touch a dead one. However, in your case, if the shop said it was fully charged but had zero cranking amps, I don't think that's it.
How is this battery mounted? As this is a custom bike, is the battery mounted solid to the frame? Or is it suspended in rubber, like an OEM battery on the older style frames? And the motor is solid mounted? I'm suspecting that vibration is killing these. If the electrical system is all OK, you might try a physically smaller battery with some shock mounting.
The battery box (check out my new pics) is solid mounted. The battery has a thin rubber around it but nothing much. The engine is solid mounted.
I am going to run a ground strap to the frame just for fun. I will have to run the battery for a while to tell if i fixed it though.
I know everybody says the HD batteries are the best, but I can assure you that just because Harley makes it doesn't make it the best. I would like an honest opinion about the quality of the X2 battery and whether HD is worth twice the money.
I had good luck with the HD battery I bought 3 batteries ago. I replaced it with another HD battery, a glass mat at like a bill and a half, and it was garbage. Lasted 1 year, same as the super cheap batteries from Walmart. I'm not buying another HD batt again. BTW, the HD battery is rumored to be made by Deka and sold at NAPA stores. It is still a bill there, though or a bit more.
2 things can kill your battery here: Electrical problem of physical problem. If your electrical system is checking out OK, then I think you have a physical problem. Solid engine mounts and solid battery mounts. Try a different kind of battery.
