vibration,
Hey guys. Rode all weekend last weekend, jumped on it tonight to ride it and its ready to shake my teeth out of my head between 2k and 3k , it has a new front mount, any ideas ? Thanks chad 1996 flt
Morning... It is unusual for a bike to suddenly start a large change in vibration. I would always say to check motor mounts first. Speaking of which, check the one you just replaced. Why was that one replaced, Chad, and were the other ones either replaced... loosened?
Check out www.glide-pro.com for free vids on how to install and align the motor mounts. He's installing his new swingarm bushings and motor mounts but some great tips and "how to" there. Sounds like that new mount is either binding ( not floating on the rubber) or caused misalignment of the motor to the frame.
I have found that every time you have a problem right after you fix something the first thing you should check is what you fixed.
ok, heres what happened now that i have time to sit down at a computer and write this, last fall on the last ride of the year, the bike started this exact vibration on the way home, over the winter, i checked the front mount and it looked somewhat rough, so i bought a velva ride knock off from ultima, and put it in there, rode last weekend, zero vibration, took it out the other night, its shaking its nuts off, i dont really know where to start, the bike only has 27k miles , so i wouldnt imagine it would be flywheels shifting, but it is prevelant between 2 and 3 thousand rpm, maybe the rear mounts are junk ? the bike does tend to walk around alot, i had planned on doing a 02 and up swingarm conversion this winter, but may have to do it now, thanks for any input.
You said you bought a knock off. I would check the condition of that first.
There is a lot of truth to the saying "You get what you pay for".

The Ultima's aren't "knock offs", they are the real thing. Of course that doesn't mean they can't $hit the bed!!! There is obviously something wrong, and it needs to be checked out. A vibration in a certain RPM range is usually harmonic in nature. Check all the mounts, and make sure that the pipes, etc aren't touching the frame, don't forget to recheck the driveline alignment. Look at the primary chain adjustment, clutch and compensater nuts. Does it vibrate in all gears at that RPM or just in one???
It will vibrate with the clutch pulled in, so it's in the drivetrain, you can sit on the bike in neutral, clutch in or out and I get the same vibration, with that said, 2500 seems to be where it really vibrated and starts going away around 3000
