Default Quick question I hope someone can answer

What would a stage 1 on a 95 evo entail? I'm looking to possibly buy one from the original owner, who can't quite remember everything that was done. The work was performed by the HD dealer where and when he purchased it. He believes it entailed some cam work, is this true? And, I'd like to know how this affects the overall performance of the bike. Thanks

Stage 1 is usually: Aftermarket Air Cleaner, Aftermarket exhaust and a new tuner......

Edit PS: The right set of cams is a good thing.

The best thing to do is go to or call the dealer and find out what exactly they did to the bike.
It will all be on their computer.

Stage one would include a high flow air cleaner, exhaust that are more open than stock and probably a carb rejet. A cam would be getting into the stage 2 area, not a bad thing.

If the bike sounds good, runs good and the price is right, I wouldn't worry too much about some dealerr upgrades probably done years ago. You can run the VIN number through HD and get it;s history, or so I;m told,

Not really worried about anything, just thought if there was cam work it would be a plus. I've always been a twinkie owner and this would be my first evo. I've test rode a couple evos and am a little concerned about not quite enough power ( I do a lot of 2-up riding). The price is right so I thought if it had the stage 1, I'd be good to go. How does the stage 1 affect performance compared to the stock evos I've ridden, assuming no cam work? That's the main thing I'd like to know since I have to drive a ways to see the bike. I don't want to have to sink more $$$ into it after I buy it.

If you get the history for the dealer you will know everything they did to the bike.

Every street bike I have owned I put money into.

Stage one isn't bad but if you want to wake that bike up you need a cam.

I did stage one to mine and noticed the difference over stock...Then I put a cam in it (EV27...There is a thread above about cams)and the difference is very noticable...It's not that much work or money to put a cam in if it hasn't been done already....

I can't argue about upgrades being a good thing, but my evo is pretty much stock except for a K & N filter and pipes, can't remember which. My wife and I are not little people, probably pushing 500 lbs of stuff on the bike with us and gear and I don't feel underpowered. I can cruise about 70 on the highway around 2700 rpms and still have plenty to pass if required. Sure my twinkie friends with the upgraded cams and all that stuff pull away a hundred yards or so off the line but I roll up to them and we cruise no problem. In the 30-50 mph twisties I have no trouble staying right with them, plus I'm not the one who sets the pace for gas stops either, i get 45-50 mpg even two up.

A stage 1 plus cam really adds some charm to the bike, really adds pep.
