Default Oil filter ?

I thought I read somewhere here on the forum that all oil filters are not the same, and a TC oil filter is not good for an EVO, but I can't find the thread.
I'm concerned because I just changed oil and used a mobile 1 filter from Auto Zone that said fit all Harley's. Should I be concerned ?
Thanks for the help.

Anybody tells you they are all the same is blowin' smoke. Here are the EVO filter numbers, and yes, they are still available. Just bought some at a dealership the other day. Difference is "microns" Evo is 30.

Black 63805-80A
Chrome 63796-77A
Chrome 63813-90T (Extended Capacity)

If you have a Harley filter that is not one on the above, it's not a 30 micron. I would change the filter out if it does not cross reference to one of the above.

The 88ci motors take a different filter than the 96ci engines and the evo is different as well.
As far as filters go that is the one place to buy name brand built to spec filters.
I use wix(amsoil) filters. The by-pass valve and the micron rating us crucial on these filters. The 96 takes a 5 micron and a 60 pound by-pass valve. I think the 88 is a 10 micron filter iirc.
I wouldn't risk not knowing. If you are unsure then spend the extra 3 dollars and buy the Harley part or buy a case from amsoil(that what I did)
Now I'm good for a few years and NO concerns.
Peace of mind is a beautiful thing

The Harley filter is does not have a 60 PSI bypass valve.

When people talk about micron rating, do they mean nominal, absolute, beta ratio or something else? Here's some links that have good information.

If you look at this chart it shows the same filter for evo's an tc's

http://www.pureoil.com/documents/Mot...rcycle_ATV.pdf

My indy puts the same k&n on evo's an tc's. Not saying I agree but he does.

This is why you must be suspicious of oil filters on the aftermarket.

If you input the purolator part no into the wix filter look up, it shows it to be an equivalent of the wix evo spec filter.

The MoCo calls for a specific filter for the TC engine, and does not allow the Evo spec. filter to be used as an acceptable alternative.

It depends what filters he is using…If he is using filters with the correct specs for use on a TC engine, he is doing something perfectly acceptable, according to the Motor Company.

If he is using Evo spec filters on TC engines, he is wrong.

I think when filter manufacturers talk about micron rating, they like to give enough partial information to make it look like their filter is the best filter to use.

Do not mix Evo and TC filters....do not use "automobile" filters....The Spanner has spoken...do not, under any cricumstances compromise the life of your motor by trying to save 5 bucks on an oil filter....and then spend 300 on chrome bling or 600 on cams and fat wires for your ride...its retarded and no good will come of it.
