Default Major or minor issue?

Test rode the 95 Heritage I had been asking questions on here about. Bike is beautiful condition and low miles. However, even though the bike shifted gears perfectly fine, it took a little effort to find them. I was thinking it's probably just a shifter adjustment, but didn't want to trust my own judgement. Because of this, I forced myself not to make an offer ( very difficult). I really love this model. What do you guys think?

What is the bike doing that make it hard to find the gears?

Sound like an adjustment or low on fluid. If the price is right do it.

1st,2nd normal. The first time I shifted to third (where I felt it should've been) the bike downshifted ( or should I say) stayed in second. I had to kinda feel my way to third and fourth as they didn't feel like they were where they were supposed to be. But with little effort I did find them and it shifted pefectly fine. When I first started out I noticed my riding boot barely fit under first gear position. That's kinda what led me to believe it's out of adjustment or something minor. That and the fact the bike only has 10k miles, elderly gentleman who is original owner, and pristine condition. I should've asked if he knew anything about it, but for some reason I just didn't.

Man, bud if the price is right BUY IT. I put in a Revtech 6 speed for under $700 (total unit replacement) because I couldn't afford the Baker. Made a huge difference. Wait a minute... tell me where this is and I'll check it out for you, k?

10K on a 95 EVO hard would be strange of any major issue with the gear box. Anything is possible I guess.
Something to consider it the shifter was adjusted down where your foot was not allowing it to return fully after each shift you will have problems getting the next gear.
Try riding it and using the heel shift and make sure each shift you allow it to return fully.

Shifter height adjustment is a ten minute (at max) job. Send me the address: I'll buy it if the price is right ! Low miles just means it might need a few things if it hasn't been on the road: probably tires (due to age), fluids, bearings, seals, etc. Great way to get to know your new ride if the price is good !! Keep us posted !

I agree changing the position of the shifter is easy, a couple of allen screws if it has the heel to shifter. My guess would be you're just not used to where the pedal sits. I know when I ride my son or friends bike it takes a few minutes to get used to the different feel.

Perhaps the guy setup the shifter for himself for his feet.

If your boot is too big to shift ., put on a pair of " go fasters , bite arounds , running friggen shoes " and feel out that tranny with your toes , they will tell you the story .
Usual trans. troubles relate to bent shifter forks from heavy footed riders but with a low
miles bike i suspect the ole Harley tractor trans. is ok and you just need to test it out.
