Default Scuffing Noise

I rebuilt my evo in May after it sat for 2 years and it ran fine until I decided to change a leaky inner primary o-ring. After reinstall it made a scraping scuffing sound coming from the front primary/front cylinder area. Upon inspection I realized the compensator sprocket cover springs were shot so I replaced it. Took it for a ride and each time, after about 15 minutes or so when the motor heated up I could hear a scuffing scraping sound coming from the front area. It now sounds more like its coming from the front cylinder. But the motor still runs fine and seems strong. Any ideas what could be the issue here? Mind you, it ran perfect until I removed that whole primary assembly and it only seems to do this at lower rpms when the motor is hot. Please give me advice on what to check first before spending money replacing parts that it "might" be. Thanks alot.

Hey homiefunk, What I would do at this point is back step and check all the parts you have touched in the primary and see if you can find some wear on any of them. Something is obviously rubbing and making that scuffing noise. Maybe something didn't get seated all the way and is protruding out just enough that it's all good when cold, but rubs when it gets hot. You'll only be out a couple gaskets and O rings. You know the old saying "What was the last thing you did?"

Yea I know I the old saying. Thats what I was thinking too. Should I grease anything or are there any tricks of the trade I should know about? I have a good manual but it doesn't tell how to reassemble the compensating sprocket assembly. I'm pretty sure I've done it right but I wish there was a troubleshoot section or something you know? The first time I assembled it I didn't oil up the magnets and stator and it made a real loud sound and seemed like the pistons were struggling to move in the front cylinder. Does that sound right? I lubed it really good this second time but its still there. What do you think? Anyways let me know if you have any other tips...

Maybe something stuck to the stator's shell?

A factory manual tells you exactly what you need to know. Disassembly and assembly ,I recommend you get one. Doesn't say anything about oiling up the stator and rotor. Just make sure your shims are there. That is key.

I have a manual that says nothing. The only reason I asked about oiling the stator is because someone in the past took a permanent marker and wrote "oil" on my bikes stator cover.... It's weird though it only makes the sound once the motor is warmed up. Any other thoughts?
