Your local dealer will be able to give you a number as to hoew many were built that year, they have access to all sorts of information. The production number of your bike is in the VIN's last digits, i.e. if you've got VIN #1HD1ELK12BZ123456, the "123456" is the production number.

Hope this answers all your questions. Have a great day!

OK heres the deal with the FXR's
1079 Shovelhead FXRS's were built
1731 Evolution FXRS's were built
834 Shovelhead FXRT's were built
1196 Evolution FXRT's were built
also there were limited edition FXRDG'sand FXRSDG's that were built and thought to have all been Evo models BUT it cant be confirmed.I always thought the FXRDG andFXRSDG didnt come out till 1985 but the info proves that wrong.
I have an 84 FXRPand Im not sure if they were included in those numbers or not.
There are quite a few people who really follow the FXR series, and have posted quite a bit of info about them on the web.
One great place is http://www.nightrider.com/
There are a few people on that site that hot rod FXRs and can pretty much tell ya all ya need to know OR can steer ya in the right direction to find what ya want.
Good luck

Don't know the numbers... But I had a early 1984 FXR for almost 12 years. 1st of the EVO/5speeds/chain drivewith the old shovel 3 stud clutch. Besides having to upgrade the clutch to handel all the engine work I did to it, the bike was flast out awesome.

You can get most any front end you want. You can get wider trees to spread out the forks you have- although yours are 35mm so I wouldn't do that. I'd get something like the 49mm fronts on the new Dynas. Those are the cat's a$$.

Most all Mid Glide and Wide Glide conversion kits that include the Triple trees are for 39 mill fork tubes. Finding a conversion kit for 35 mill tubes like yours is hard to come by. The kits i've seenwill include the axles, spacers, rotor spacers, etc. to allow you to use your current wheel. If you can find a comlplete conversion kit it will utilize your existing forks so the brake caliper will remain.

For headlights, if you replace the stock eyebrow and bucket with a light from a wideglide, you will need to relocate alot of the connections from the headlight bucket to the frame (Like underneath the seat.)

Jireh has kits for your bike for $420. I would recommend a fork brace, but not sure if anyone makes a wide one in 35mm.
As an aside, the reason for the narrowglide forks on the FXR's is to improve handling. Are you sure you want to make the change?
