Just like the title says, I'm looking for a new engine guard/crash bar for Ruby. The original one is a little tweaked and scuffed up, so I want to replace it and I'm not having much luck.
Can anyone with access to parts lookup confirm a model year compatibility?
Anyone know where else I can look? I just want a stock chrome one, or possibly a beefier aftermarket chrome one, but it would have to be shaped the same as stock to fit the lower fairing supports. Please help!
This is the right side mount, if you look you can see the origanal mounting hole for the factory bar. The newer bars mount a bit lower than the older bars. I had to drill a new hole to mount the bar as you can see. The bar below the mount is the front floorboard bar.
So that's a 97-08 engine guard on a 89-90 frame? And the one lower hole on the right side is the only modification needed for it to fit? This kept the upper section perfectly horizontal for mounting the lower fairing brackets for the shark nose?
Okay, I just installed a brand new aftermarket chrome crash bar. I drilled the hole just like MountainKowboy suggested(THANKS!, BTW) and it went on perfectly. Now with the extra hole drilled, not only can I still use the original 89-96 style, but the 97-08 as well. That's what I bought by the way, a 97-2008 Touring highway bar.
While I was at it, I replaced the seized and stripping out 3-piece clamps for my highway pegs with new Kuryakin Magnum quick clamps.
After I got the old one off, I was amazed to find out it was a little more tweaked than I thought. Both sides were bent, lower corners to the left side. I'm just glad the frame survived whatever caused the bar to bend.(I'm saying the frame survived because the new bar went right on and lined up perfectly without having to flex it into place at all).
Thanks for the advice, MountainKowboy! It worked like a dream.
