Glad to hear that everything worked out!

We need an EVO cross-over data base for what late parts fit and what mod is needed to make them fit.

Just out of curiosity, why are you guys going to the later model engine guard? I need to replace the one on my 84 FLHTC and was wondering if it was because the origional is not available. Thanks

I scoured Ebay and craigslist for a couple days looking for a new or even like new one that would fit. I couldn't find any that would fit the right years to be a direct bolt-on, but saw literally dozens of inexpensive, brand-new aftermarket ones for 97-08. By just drilling that one hole, I dramatically increased the available replacement parts that fit my bike.

I don't know if the exact replacement is still available from Harley or not, I didn't check there. If it was still available, I'm sure it would have been at least twice what I paid for the aftermarket one. Since crash bars take a lot of abuse, I figured that the aftermarket ones are much cheaper to replace than the OEM HD ones.

Thanks, good to know. Unfortunatly i believe my 84 is different than yours. Last time i replaced mine i got them from the dealer because of the anti-dive front end. Now i don't need the air valves due to new mono-tube front end.

Yeah, my anti-dive reservoir is in my handlebars, not my crash bar. The ONLY difference between my original crash bar and the 97-08 style is the right lower mounting point; on the original one both lower mounting points are the same height left and right, on the newer one the right lower mount is about an inch lower than either the left or the original one.

No air on my 89 anymore either, replaced the front fork internals with Revtech performance springs and "gold" emulators.

,

The springs, emulators, seals, bushings, new chrome cowbells, and all the hardware required to get rid of the air system was right around $350.

I had to modify my damper tubes for the emulators, but it was a HUGE improvement in handling. Now I just need to bring the rear up to the fronts standards, and my Ester should be quite the canyon carver.......at least for an 800 pound bike!

Did alot of research, I believe the 84 frame is the same as yours. Found a set of lindby bars on ebay for $110. I'll give it a shot and let you know. they are for a 1995. thanks for the info.

My Tour Glide has mounts that attach the bottom of the fairing to the top of the crash bar, so I have to use standard-shaped crash bars; the mustache style bars wouldn't work right with the fairing mounts. Aren't most Lindby bars mustache shaped?
