Default 1990 fxsts nightmare

Well here goes, I have a 90 softail that I had a open primary on. I dropped it one day and screwed up the splineshaft on the primary side. I went and talked to a guy that was known for building motors and he told me he had flywheels from a 93 that he could put in it and it would work without a hitch. Well that being the case i gave him the go to split the cases and put the flywheels in the bike.

The problem I am having is about after every 50 miles the keyway for the pinion shaft breaks. So I have and 90 engine and internals with 93 flywheels if that makes sense. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to make this work or am I **** out of luck. I have the bike in a shop and they are completle stumped on it. They fixed it i rode it for 50 miles or so then when I went to crank it up it backfired and that was all she wrote. They think it is the nosecone that is the problem but with my research on the net. I found the the nosecones differ and i dont know if it will work.

So my question will a 93 nosecone fit on a 90 engine?
Are the 93 flywheels even interchangeable in a 90 engine?
If so what do I need to change to make it work?
I do know that the pinion shaft on a 90 is left hand thread and on a 93 is rht.
Would modifying the pinion shaft nut solve the problem? (2 different styles for the years)
and for my worst case
Splitting the cases dissassembling the flywheel and mating the spline shaft from the 93 onto the 90 flywheel is this possible?

any response is appreciated I have spent over 3 grand on this motor since after the rebuild its been in 3 shops and no one can help me except take my money with open arms. I am need some answers and hopefully they are in my favor of not spending another few grand to get this motor running properly.

Thanks

I'm not sure about that. We don't have an answer for you yet, that's all. Yours sounds like a difficult problem not many people will be able to answer.
