Angry Made in China! Help!!!

Decided to go for 6 speed gearset on my decker. Not having money for Bakker
Was comparing Ultima and RevTeck. Ppl seem to like both of them, Ultima seems to get a tiny bit better reviews. So I bought one on Ebay.
Got a no-name, box, no manual, nothing, but big proud sticker "made in china". WTF? Should I immediately return/resell/toss that crap, or they are all made in china nowdays? Except bakker, but hence the price? Or could I live with that?

I don't know about what you bought, and things on eBay without a box and paperwork are highly suspect, but if I recall, the Ultima motors are Far East sourced. So Chinese made gears would not surprise me at all.

Well, then it may not be that bad, since Ultima motors are alright, as far as I know...
Is RevTeck also chinese made?

Actually there was a box and seem-to-be a factory packing with styrofoam and such, just no pics, brand and papers. Kinda what is commonly called "OEM package"

RevTech is Korean Made, and a total POS IMO! I had the RevTech 6 Speed on my bike for about 15k miles. One day while cruising through the desert on a 2 lane hwy at about 75 MPH, I heard/felt 2 rapid clunks and the trans totally locked up putting me into a full on skid that could have cost me my life. I couldn't even move the bike off the road. Police had to direct traffic around me until a friend showed up with tools and a trailer. RevTech replaced the trans free of charge after a lot of bitching, but I ended up selling it on eBay. I just couldn't get comfortable riding that trans with concerns of it possibly locking up again.

I once threw a rear chain on the freeways that wrapped around the sprocket bolts and locked the rear wheel at 65 MPH. How many of those lock-ups can I expect to survive? So no more RevTech anything for me.

I think you got something someone represented as Ultima. If it was a real Ultima I would expect to see their name on it.

I would send it back if you can.

ya that's a tough one. I'd guess China all the way around and not having a name on it, i'm not surprised. I've heard some sketchy stuff about Revtech motors... Personally, I wouldn't risk it if potential life and limb are in question. This is an issue more and more as everything seems to be made out there. New old stock is my choice when available.
good luck.

Ultima tranny's are Chinese but don't have alot of problems out of them. Engines are advertised as USA based but say the parts are forged/machined in China still, assembled in Missouri.

Just found out last week that Timpken bearings are also outsourced when calling on repair info, that caught me offgaurd.

What we have to bear in mind where Chinese manufacture is concerned is that they are able to use the very latest technology to manufacture stuff, so can produce things to very high standards. The difficulty for us consumers is if their Western customer insists they use them!

I visited the Birmingham Proof House not long ago, centre of the British small-arms industry for centuries, where guns were manufactured and sold around the World. They were able to make and sell top drawer war-winning military stuff right down to the cheapest imaginable guns that were not safe to fire even once!

Seems to me the Chinese are in a similar position at present. If Western customers demand top quality stuff you and I can have it and benefit, but if they want to cut corners, the Chinese will oblige!
