Smile Road king 2001 Model

I have the opportunity to purchase a Harley Road King 1450cc version(not EVO) and limited version 57/150 12000mls since new, a friend has advised me to be careful as he had one similar that had cam shaft bearing problems and a was prevalant on Harley`s at the time, Harley did not recall them, which he thought they should, his was a 1999/2000 model V registaration in England, has anyone had similar problems or is this a one off.

99 was first year twin cam motor and the only so called issue was the cam chain tensioner shoes waering out. I had a 2000 with that motor and had no issues. I got 27k on motor before I changed mine only because I swapped cams. Now you have better options to fix that issue.

Yep, cam bearings were an issue, but not as much as the cam chain tensioners.. most of us used the cam bearing upgrade as a reason to put some decent cams in while changing cam chain tensioners...

The cam bearings/chain tensioner aren't a reason to stay away - the issue is easily and fairly inexpensively rectified w/an aftermarket gear-driven cam.

...or the factory retro-fit upgrade kit.
