Default Camshaft Problems?

I could really use some input on the issue of TC88 camshaft problems. I have an opportunity to buy a 2000 FXDL w/7000 miles on it. What I am concerned about is what I have heard about the seemingly frequent camshaftbearing problems.Was/isthis a big problem? Is it an expensive fix?

Default RE: Camshaft Problems?

Yes, the early twin cam 88's did have a cam bearing issue, one bearing would fail. Check with your dealer about this prior to purchase. Give your VIN and maybe they can find out if the fix was performed earlier. The twin cams also have cam chain tension shoes that will need to be looked at around 20k miles. All in all the motor is very dependable. If you have to have the cam bearings done replace the lifters with the "B" lifters. Those are just upgraded lifters. Hope this helps.
