stock cam: ive been told 30-40k on lifters, bearing? if you have a reason to go in there (cam, etc), then change it out....then again there's always exceptions. my buddy just grenaded his 96 FXD (tore up something in the bottom end....almost 10 years @ 107rwhp)....the only thing that WASNT effed up with the INA cam bearing.

any plans for mods?

cam tensioner? the cam is gear-driven...and theres only one. there isnt a cam tensioner per se.

lots of good pictures here (remove the spaces...not sure why it screws up the URL when I post this link....forum competition perhaps?

someone elses picture, doesnt show the breather gear (he's got an S&S reed breather installed, like I did with my build)....but as you can see, the cam gear (larger one, on top), is driven directly off the pinion gear (bottom) on the crankshaft

Yes, you should definitely change that cam bearing to a Torrington if it's never been done. That bearing shouldn't cost you more than $10. The stock bearing is notorious for failing, and if you don't catch it failing, it could destroy the engine. IMO. you might as well go with a Cam upgrade while you're in there. Andrews EV27 is nice and will make a notable performance difference. The Cam was like $125 on eBay. Cutting your current push-rods out with a bolt cutter and replacing them with adjustables will save you the hassle or expense of pulling the heads. I went with Andrews Adjustables on the Push-rods. They were just over $100 on eBay. I personally haven't heard much on Breather issues, but a new stock H-D Plastic Breather was only about $6.50, so why not. I considered going with a steel replacement breather vs. H-D plastic, but the majority of the Wrenches I talked to advised against it. Their theory is that the plastic breather can't cause damage to the cases & that the Steel Breathers could.

No guess as to when the stock bearing might fail. One of my buds had the bearing fail at 12k miles. Another buds failed at 64k miles.

This link is to a guy selling NOS Torrington bearings. You want these buggers, ie the Real Deal!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REAL-Torring...-/370688689997

On a side note, I just got an NOS SE-1. Am I missing something? This cam looks tiny?

Should I not bother with this cam and go for the EV27?
