So, I may have screwed up.....what happens if i mix up the cylinders (front to back)?
I'm pretty sure I know which one came from where, but I'm not positive.

Should the pistons be removed and cleaned up?

I would remove them, clean them up, and put new rings on them.

Basically since you are there already do all you can to keep from having to go back in.

Just my 2 cents.

It's just my opinion but if you pull a piston you are not going to get ring back in same place and it will need to seat in again. If it were I, I would replace the rings. Make sure you do not have a ridge groove in cylinder. And I also would lightly break the glaze like you see in the cylinder in 3X's attachment. With just two cylinders, you can do it by hand if you like. Have you measured you piston at the proper location (need a book for this) and the cylinder bore at the wear area just down into it a little way (about 1/4") to check for wear?
